Not What I was Expecting

I was sitting on my front porch, watching two of my grandsons search for lizards. From behind me, I heard a little voice calling my name frantically.

I turned, expecting to see a skinned knee.

Instead, I got a plastic snake in my face, accompanied by a stream of giggles. Ha ha.

Not at all what I was expecting indeed.

And that’s what makes for a good story. That unexpected twist that takes the story in a complete different direction than the reader expected, onto a different adventure with new conflicts and triumphs.

Which is why so many people enjoyed The Girl Who Broke the Dark. We all know the story of Sleeping Beauty, which inspired my novel. What no one expected was the twist that came after the princess broke the curse on the sleeping prince. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it on most online retailers by clicking here.

What I’ve Been Writing

I’ve been bouncing back and forth between The Girl Who Wrote on Water and The  Girl Who Shattered the Sea, working out continuity between the two and making the story even more exciting. I hope you’ll love these books as much as I’ve loved writing them.
