It was during her travels in Ukraine that everything changed.

There, Evelyn met a family whose courage through brutal persecution left an indelible mark on her soul. Their story of perseverance and faith became the foundation for the award-winning memoir, Beyond the Rapids. When that book won a Readers’ Favorite award, something shifted. The woman who had once run from writing found herself running toward it—this time, to create the epic fantasy novels she’d always wished existed.

But perfectionism doesn’t disappear just because you’ve found your calling.

Evelyn will be the first to admit that writing her first novel took far longer than expected. She’s a self-proclaimed perfectionist and occasional procrastinator who wants every page to not just entertain, but to enchant. Her work explores the themes that matter most to her: courage in impossible situations, the cost of power, sacrifice and loyalty, and the eternal struggle between fear and hope. Most importantly, her stories examine what it means to choose who you become—a question she’s wrestled with personally throughout her own adventurous life.

Today, Evelyn is the author of two epic fantasy series

The first is the four-book epic fantasy Outlawed Myth series—Flight of the Spark, Flicker of the Flame, Sting of the Scorpion, and Flood of the Fire. Her second series is the Royal Mages series, which includes The Girl Who Broke the Dark, The Girl Who Wrote on Water, The Girl Who Shattered the Sea, and the fourth volume due out in September, 2026. Her journey as a writer has taken yet another unexpected turn into ghostwriting and copywriting, where she’s discovered that success in the book business requires not just storytelling skills, but marketing savvy too. It’s another adventure she’s embraced with characteristic determination, learning to write advertising copy that actually sells while continuing to craft the fantasy worlds that fuel her passion.

After returning from Russia, Evelyn finally settled down, marrying and inheriting three stepdaughters, two step-grandsons, and a cat in the process.

She and her husband now call South Carolina home, where they’re enjoying longer summers, plenty of barbecue, and the kind of life she never could have predicted when she was that little girl in Pittsburgh avoiding writing assignments. From postage stamps that cost four cents to award-winning author, from healthcare administrator to missionary to novelist—Evelyn’s life has been anything but ordinary.

What drives her now is simple: to create fantasy stories that leave readers richer for having spent time in the worlds she’s built.

Whether she’s crafting tales of mythical creatures and impossible quests or sharing the real-life adventures that continue to shape her journey, Evelyn writes with the conviction that the best stories—fantasy or otherwise—reveal profound truths about courage, sacrifice, and the choices that define us. She’s living proof that it’s never too late to embrace the calling you once ran from, and that sometimes the most magical adventures are the ones we never saw coming.
