Sometimes your only hope is a bitter enemy…

Princess Derya of Cinar expected a hero’s welcome after her triumphant quest in the north. Instead, she’s greeted by whispers that her father plans to name another heir—and her scheming cousins are vying to take her place.

Desperate to prove herself, Derya accepts her father’s command and embarks on an impossible mission. Her task: recover the magical crown Cetus lost a millennium ago, now rumored to be hidden in islands infested with Cetus’s monsters. Her only lead? The kings of the north—who, after her last visit, are nursing old grudges and would rejoice to witness her defeat.

If Derya fails to return with the crown, Cetus will proceed unopposed with his plans to enslave the continent, starting with the princess who defied him. Derya will not only have lost her throne.

She’ll have lost the world.

Behind the Scenes

Of all my books, The Girl Who Shattered the Sea was the most fun to write. I don’t know if the big scenes came to me more easily or the character took over the writing, but its early draft flowed. And I couldn’t wait to share some of these scenes with my early readers,  who loved them as much as I hoped they would. This novel further widened the story, and I added a third princess to the mix, as well as a love interest for Derya.

What Readers are Saying About The Girl Who Shattered the Sea

The storyline is phenomenal. I have fallen in love with the characters and the world they live in. The imagery is incredible - I can practically picture the scenes in my head.
GoodReads Reviewer
The perfect sequel to its predecessors, with a satisfying balance between action, political tensions, clean romance, and back-and-forth between characters that is oh so entertaining to read.

Building the world of the Royal Mages series

As Derya traveled, I continued to build out the various nations of Ardebil. One of my goals was to base my world on other cultures than western Europe.

In The Girl Who Shattered the Sea, Derya heads back to Nafplio for a brief time.

Then she sets sail for the distant western islands, hoping to reclaim one of Cetus’s magical artifacts.

I based the islands very loosely on the geography and culture of the Canary Islands. But sadly, she doesn’t spend much time there. She’s too busy battling the evil sorcerer’s mutant water fae and a dragon.
