Sting of the Scorpion
by Evelyn Puerto
Outlawed Myth Book 3
Meanwhile, an ancient evil stirs...
An orphaned girl, powerless and destitute. An Endless War, that threatens to consume everyone in its path. Magic amulets, that hold the promise of victory.
After Damira witnesses the brutal slaughter of nearly her entire clan by a roving warband, she resolves never to feel helpless again. With nowhere to go, she, her brother and a friend surrender to a warlord, resigned to becoming little more than pawns in the Endless War.
But when Wei Fang, a warlord wielding magic amulets threatens to destroy anyone who stands against her, Damira must choose. Will she seek to master the power of the amulets and make a stand against the brutal Wei Fang?
Or will the power behind the amulets destroy her first?
Behind the Scenes
My original series outline had Sting of the Scorpion continue Tereka’s adventures. But on the advice of Veronica Sicoe, herself a talented novelist, I combined the events of the final two books into what would later become Book 4, Flood of the Fire. But I’d already announced the series would have four books. What to do?
I decided to write the backstory for the antagonist of Flood of the Fire in her own novel. That required creating a whole new world with its own cultures and customs. This is the only one of my novels that has the protagonist on a negative character arc.

Worldbuilding Notes
While most of the action of the Outlawed Myth series takes place in Tlefas, in Sting of the Scorpion we move east of the mountains to Razdelia.
This is the land the residents of Tlefas fled, seeking to escape the Endless War.
The war is still raging, the four major nations battling for supremacy.
Damira, Sting of the Scorpion’s protagonist, is Otrechian. Her people were semi-nomadic horsemen living on wide steppes. If that sounds like Mongolia or Kazakhstan, you’d be right. That’s where I found my inspiration.
Vernia was somewhat Persian inspired, and Uzhasovia borrowed from Chinese and Japanese cultures. The northern Izolliyans were somewhat Russian and Finnish inspired.
Each of them had their own opinions of the Endless War, how to fight it, and how to end it.
No one expected an orphaned girl from Otrechia to come up with the solution.
