Someone’s Watching Me

Coyote

Ever get the sense someone is watching you?

A week or so ago I was diligently typing away, revising a scene from Flood of the Fire, when the back of my neck started prickling. I had the creepy sensation that someone was watching me.

No one was in the room. Then I glanced out the window. Sprawled under a tree in my backyard, a coyote fixed his eyes on me.

And there he sat. All afternoon. Just watching the house. My mind flashed to Professor McGonagall in her cat form watching the Dursleys’ house in the opening of Harry Potter. My fantasy writer’s brain wanted the coyote to be the harbinger of something magical. But, alas, it was not to be. As the sun set, he got up and trotted into the woods.

Every time I look into his eyes, I can’t help but think he had a reason for his surveillance of my house. Surely watching a writer at work can’t be all that interesting!

But then, I’m not a coyote.

Have any animals had you under observation? Tell me about it in the comments!

  1. The only thing observing me are the blackbirds or some call them ravens when they come to the door wanting to be fed! When I open the door to oblige they look at me sideways keeping an eye on me to see what I’m throwing out for them and where. Sometimes they even peck at the door to get our attention.

  2. my cat sits on the floor by my sofa and stares at me for ages. She won’t come up and sit with me – just stares. When I die she will eat my face!!!!!
