It’s that time of year again when pumpkins become a thing. I love to use the opportunity to add some pumpkin to my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. Just mixing things up a little creates a wonderful explosion of flavor.
And that’s sometimes how writing is. Just adding something different lifts a scene from interesting to riveting.
One of my best sources of new ideas are my early readers. Their comments often make me think about the characters or story in a different way.
Recently one of them pointed out that one of my characters would never pick her cuticles. She was right.
Which made me think what else that character could do instead. I’m so excited by what came to mind. It’s so much better than my original idea.
I never would have thought more about this had that reader not made her comment.
So to all my early readers, commenters, critiquers, thank you.
