Behind the Scenes

I knew the second novel of the Outlawed Myth series would take a significant turn from the first, but I didn’t expect what would happen during revisions. My first draft was writing during NaNoWriMo in 2013, and the protagonist was a young man. By the time I got around to revising that draft about four years later, I’d changed my mind and the male protagonist Terek became a female named Tereka. I think that led for a stronger story in many ways. Some of the predicaments Tereka landed in were much more dangerous for a woman than a man, and the parallels of her story to her mother’s worked better comparing mother and daughter. I was truly gratified that Tarkio, who’d been a fan favorite in Flight of the Spark continued to be a popular figure.
